I was reading in a devotional the other day and came upon something the author called, "Maggot Theology".  That got my attention, as I imagine it did you also.

So, what exactly is "maggot theology"?   According to the same author, it's a teaching that God is sitting up in heaven on His throne and just waiting to step on us sinful worms on earth.  Maggot theology teaches that God is hard to please, that man must work at doing good things in life and then hope he can work hard enough to be accepted into heaven.   It's a "poor old me, just an old sinner" kind of theology.

Now, the truth.  If you believe in Christ, that He died for your sins and you believe your faith in Him is the only way into heaven, you are very, very far from being any kind of worm.  First, you were made in the image of God.  No other part of creation can make that claim.  In all the universe presently, in the universe in times past and in times future, you are totally unique.  God only made one of you and never to be duplicated again.  That is speaking of you whether you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Here is the best part:  Having believed in Jesus as your Savior, you have been promoted far above the rest of creation, even above the angels in heaven.  There are far more scriptures proving who you are now than there are any scriptures supporting any "maggot theology".

As a believer in Jesus Christ, you are now a child of God (John 1:12); you were bought with a price and are now the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19-20).  You are a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17); cleansed from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).    You are one with Him in spirit (1 Cor.6:17); no longer a slave to sin (Romans 6:6) and you are part of a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession (1 Peter 2:9).  You may still have battles with evil but nothing can separate you from Christ so you are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37).

The list could go on and on but one scripture to finish is Ephesians 2:4-6, "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,"

God is omniscient, which simply means He knows the future.  Before you were born God looked down into time to the day that you accepted His Son, Jesus, as your Savior.  In God's Eyes you were saved, even though in the time leading up to that moment of salvation you were dead in your sins, God still saw you in that day and made you alive in Christ.  Then, just as Jesus was raised from the dead, God saw you raised with Him, ascending into heaven with Him and then He made you to sit down with Jesus.

Why did God know He was going to have to make you and me to sit down?  (This is just my belief, and not scriptural)  Because once we are in heaven and we see the glory of God and hear the angels crying "holy, holy, holy", we will be want to fall at His Feet in thanksgiving.   So, God will gently ask us to be seated with Him.

The bottom line is this:  There are no maggots crawling around in heaven.  Instead, they are most likely in hell tormenting those who have rejected Jesus.  If you know Jesus as Savior, you are destined for heaven where there is a chair with your name on it.
